    MAGHA PUJA CELEBRATION

The monks of Wat Tepthidaram would like to invite all of Buddhist in BC to join us to celebrate the MAGHA PUJA on Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Wat Khmer Tepthidaram.

This year 2009 Magha Puja will be on Jan. 9. This day is an important Buddhist holy day, sometimes called "Sangha Day," commemorates the spontaneous assembly of 1,250 arahants in the Buddha's presence. One thousand of the gathered monks had previously achieved Awakening upon hearing the Buddha's delivery of the Fire Sermon; the remaining 250 were followers of the elder monks Ven. Moggallana and Ven. Sariputta. To mark this auspicious gathering, the Buddha delivered the Ovada-Patimokkha Gatha, a summary of the main points of the Dhamma, which the Buddha gave to the assembly before sending them out to proclaim the doctrine.

One of our greatest women, Mrs. Soun Yon passed away

Mrs. Soun Yon passed away on Monday, December 15, 2008 at age 70 years old. Her family, daughter, son in law, son (come from Cambodia), grandsons and granddaughter passed their difficult time with the huge sadness to lost their mother and grand grandmother. A lot of Cambodian, about 200 persons, had deeply shared this event of sadness with them at Wat khmer Tepthidaram and Funeral home on 72 Avenue Surrey. We would like to notice that Mrs Yon was a great person for our Cambodian Buddhist Community of Wat Khmer Tepthidaram. She provided her efforts and services to our temple and prepared food for the monks of Wat Tepthidaram. We recognized her great service and remember her in our mind. The following link give you some pictures of her .

Visakha Puja Day will be comming soon, in the middle of next month. This is an extremely important day in the Buddhist tradition, for it was on this day that the Buddha was born, and 35 years later awoke to the unexcelled right self-awakening, and another 45 years later passed away into total nibbana. In each case, these events took place on the full-moon day in May, when the moon is in the Visakha asterism, which is why the day is called Visakha Puja.
